As the build-up to the November 11th governorship election in Imo state intensifies, all eyes are on the various political parties and their candidates. One party that has been making headlines in recent times is the Labour Party (LP). Today, the party held its primary election, which was reportedly an orchestrated plan to hand over its party ticket to Sen. Athan Achonu(Agu otu aka). However, this move by LP has been met with mixed reactions from political analysts and observers.

Sen. Athan Achonu's defection to LP from the All Progressives Congress (APC) is seen by many as a product of desperation and over ambition. It fits into the act of the "old order" politicians, which the LP claims not to be involved in. The emergence of Sen. Athan Achonu as LP's candidate is everything contrary to the philosophy and political stand of LP. This move is believed to further widen the crack in the party and will obviously cost the party victory in the forthcoming guber election.

The LP had initially positioned itself as a party of change, one that would break away from the norm and provide an alternative to the existing political parties in Imo state. However, Sen. Athan Achonu's emergence as the party's candidate has raised concerns about the party's commitment to its original philosophy. Many are now questioning whether the LP is indeed different from the existing political parties or whether it is just another party willing to do whatever it takes to win an election.

The PDP was initially seen as the main challenger to the ruling APC in Imo state. However, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu's emergence as the party's candidate has raised concerns about the party's ability to mount a strong challenge. Many are now questioning whether the PDP is capable of providing a viable alternative to the APC since the party has been grappling with internal wrangling, which has further dented its image and credibility. 

On the other hand, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has proven to be a united and democratic party in the just concluded primary election. The emergence of Gov. Hope Uzodimma as the party's candidate is a product of a democratic process. This sends a message to Imo state and the rest of the country that APC is prepared and battle-ready to retain power in Imo state.

As the November 11th governorship election approaches, it is important for political parties and their candidates to focus on the issues that matter to the people. The people of Imo state are looking for a leader who can provide solutions to the many challenges facing the state as well as consolidate on the numerous developmental projects of His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma
