Chief Athan Achonu has emerged the winner of the Imo State Labour Party governorship primaries.
Achonu who represented Imo North senatorial district in 2015, before he was removed by the Supreme Court and lost at the rerun, won in a keenly contested Election held in Owerri, the state capital, on Saturday night.
The Abia State governor- elect, Alex Otti, who served as the chairman of the election panel declared Achonu the winner of the primary having scored the highest number of votes.
In declaring Achonu the winner of the exercise, Otti said that he scored 134 votes while his closest rival, Jack Ogunewe, got 121 votes.
Achonu would now be facing Senator Samuel Anyanwu Samdaddy of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and Senator Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress APC amongst others that would emerge from other political parties in the November 11th Governorship election in the state.
